WHAT'S NEW

This page will post occasional pieces of news on the mission, as such information is passed onto us

Tables of potential observations are now available for download from here. Be sure to read the file "readme.txt".

A FAQ list has been generated for the mission

A meeting of the CHRIS experimenters was held at ESTEC on April 3rd and 4th. About 50 people attended, mostly from Europe, but including experimenters from North America, Israel and Australia. Several groups have made heroic efforts to analyse the small amount of data that was available from last year, and certain common problems were identified. The chance was taken to fine tune the science programme for the coming year. An excellent dinner was arranged by ESA, and the event reinforced the community spirit that had been engendered during the first workshop in July 2000. Some of the presentations made at the workshop can be seen here.

Following a software update in December 2002, the co-location of the five views has been greatly improved. The first image set taken under the new arrangements can be seen here.

Funding has been found to extend the lifetime of the mission until September 2003.

The PROBA platform was launched in October 2001. At this time (2 March 2002) the platform is still being commissioned, and we hope that the CHRIS instrument can start its commissioning phase soon. The orbit that the satellite is currently in is not the one that was initially chosen. Instead, it is some 200km lower and so is suffering much more atmospheric drag than was expected. The main effect of this is to make it virtually impossible to predict where the spacecraft will be any time more than 4-6 weeks in the future.
